Environmental / Code Compliance

The Bosque County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to protecting the natural beauty and serenity that make Bosque County a special place to live, work, and visit. As part of this commitment, the Sheriff’s Office has assigned two Deputies specifically to address environmental issues and investigate environmental crimes.

These Deputies work diligently to identify violations, enforce applicable laws, and preserve the county’s land, waterways, and natural resources for future generations. Through proactive enforcement and strong partnerships with the community, the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office works to ensure the environment remains protected while maintaining a high quality of life for all residents.

Compliance with Compassion

At the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office, our mission goes beyond enforcement—we are here to help. The Environmental Enforcement Unit works with residents to resolve issues in a way that promotes compliance while offering practical solutions and support.

We understand that some situations can become overwhelming, and our goal is to restore properties, protect public health, and assist our community whenever possible.

Duties & Areas of Enforcement

The Environmental Enforcement Unit handles a wide range of environmental and safety concerns, including:

  • Illegal Dumping: Investigating sites that threaten land and water resources

  • TCEQ Violations: Ensuring compliance with standards set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality

  • Bosque County Code Violations: Addressing local regulations that maintain safe and healthy communities

  • Water Pollution & Environmental Hazards: Protecting waterways and rural landscapes

  • Sewer & OSSF Compliance: Assisting with On-Site Sewage Facility (OSSF) issues to prevent health risks and groundwater contamination

  • Property Neglect: Helping families manage hoarding situations or large-scale cleanup efforts

Deputies assigned to this unit work closely with local, state, and federal partners to ensure compliance and hold violators accountable when necessary.

Inmate Work Program

In addition to enforcement efforts, the Sheriff’s Office utilizes an inmate labor crew to assist with cleanup operations and county improvement projects.

These efforts directly contribute to keeping Bosque County clean while saving taxpayers thousands of dollars annually—funds that would otherwise be required to complete these essential services.

Report Environmental Violations

Community involvement is critical to protecting Bosque County. If you observe illegal dumping, pollution, or other environmental concerns, please report it:

If the violation is in progress, call 911 immediately.

When reporting, please provide:

  • Location of the incident

  • Date and time observed

  • Description of individuals or vehicles involved

  • Photos or video (if safely obtained)

How You Can Help

  • REPORT: Notify us of illegal dumping or hazards

  • VOLUNTEER: Participate in upcoming community cleanup efforts

  • REACH OUT: If you or a neighbor need assistance with cleanup or compliance issues, contact our Environmental Enforcement Unit

Together, we can preserve the beauty and integrity of Bosque County.

Applicable Texas Laws

Environmental violations may result in fines, restitution, and/or criminal charges under Texas law, including:

  • Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 365 – Regulates illegal dumping and littering

  • Texas Water Code Chapter 7 – Governs environmental enforcement actions

  • Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 382 – Addresses air quality and burning violations

The Sheriff’s Office works in coordination with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and other regulatory partners to ensure compliance.

Key Information for Residents

  • Sewer Permits: All new construction or repairs to sewage systems require a permit and inspection, regardless of land size

  • Maintenance Requirements: Aerobic systems typically require a maintenance contract on file with the county

  • Additional Assistance: For OSSF applications and technical guidance, residents may contact the Bosque County Environmental Office

Community Impact

Through enforcement and proactive initiatives, the Environmental Enforcement Unit continues to:

  • Reduce illegal dumping across the county

  • Improve compliance with environmental laws

  • Protect waterways and natural resources

  • Save taxpayers thousands of dollars annually

  • Enhance the overall quality of life in Bosque County

Our Commitment
