ESTRAYS

 

         If you own any livestock in the county, sometimes they have a tendency to run estray(loose) outside your property.  We as a Sheriff's Office do what we can to return any loose livestock back to the original property they came from, but sometimes it can be difficult locating an owner or the property which they belong.  Our job aside from this is to secure the animals on a property to remove them from roadways to prevent any potential damages or vehicle accidents that can occur.  If your livestock is missing or is located on someone else's property, below are the State of Texas mandates that deal with procedures on Estray Law and the County Fees associated with the handling of Estrays.

 

                    RECOVERY/HAULING

 

       Large Animal (cattle, horses, ostrich, emu, llama, etc)

       First Animal..................................................................... $125.00

       Second Animal................................................................    $75.00

 

       Small Animal (goats, sheep, etc)

       Five (5) or less.................................................................  $100.00

       Each additional animal (over 5)......................................    $25.00

 

                    BOARDING/FEEDING

 

       Large Animal (cattle, horses, ostrich, emu, llama, etc)

       Per day, per animal..........................................................  $8.00

       Small Animal (goats, sheep, etc)

       Per day, per animal..........................................................  $5.00

 

                    RELEASE FEE

 

       Per Animal.......................................................................  $30.00

 

       SPECIAL NOTICE

             1.  If roundup, hauling and/or care is done by Contract, cost will be assessed by Contractor.

             2.  Cost of any special care (i.e. Vet care, etc) will be assessed by Caregiver.

             3.  Cost of Boarding and Feeding may increase depending on location the animal(s) is/are held.
